This phrase came to me during the consultation skills course I am teaching these days to describe the role of the Aura-Soma Consultant. (A midwife is the lady in the hospital who helps the mother to give birth to her baby)

Part detective …

A fundamental question for every consultation is “What is it in the client’s life that these bottles are resonating with?” The exact answer to this will never be found in a book because every client’s story is unique and individual. It is by engaging with the client in an open, sensitive, and intelligent “working together” exploration that the answer to this question can emerge. Listening for clues, asking good questions and putting the pieces of the picture together – these are the skills of the detective which the Practitioner uses to serve the client.

Part midwife …

Understanding is only one of the goals of the consultation though. The potential of a real and positive change in the client’s life is also a key wish for any consultation. In my opinion the achievement of change is a very subtle thing and so it is with care that I choose this word “midwife”.

The role of the midwife is more subtle – after the birth she is no longer needed, the baby is clearly in the hands of the mother from that point on. My role and goal as Practitioner is similar. I support the birth process but do not do the work for the client, and afterwards the outcome of the consultation rests entirely in the hands of the client. My activity is subtle: to be present, attentive, supportive. I hold the space for a seed of potential to be uncovered, recognized and open within the client during the session.

Care

I also attend to this opening seed in its first fragile moments of life during the session. However I know and trust that the energy for the growth of a seed is always contained within the seed itself. All I need do as a midwife is support the opening and rooting of this seedling in the client’s consciousness. I look at it with love, check the soil around it for weeds and obstructions, and with the client choose appropriate nourishment for its vitality and growth, principally in the form of Aura-Soma Products.

My work in the consultation is as much behind the scenes as it is leading from the front. As a student on this most recent course exclaimed to me “It seems like you (Dominic) are doing nothing but something happens!”

Find out more

You are always welcome to find out more about the skills to support this way of working by finding out more about my consultation skills course: Practices and Principles of Aura-Soma. It is both a Practitioner Renewal course, a Level 4 consultation skills course and, in Japan, a Teacher Renewal course.

The smell of fish cooking came to me the other day as I was resting next to the kitchen. Into my mind came the thought of alchemy. The fish had not smelled so delicious 10 minutes before. The cooking was changing it into something with different qualities. This thought of change brought to my mind St Germain the master of transmutation whose Pale Violet Equilibrium combination B56 is found in the sphere of Yesod in the Tree of Life.

St Germain – Transmutation energy

The Importance of Timing

Yesod is located in a triangle made of Netsach, Hod and Malkuth at the bottom of the Tree. It made me think that these three spheres create a transformative oven for the self. Furthermore I realized that a key ingredient in any cooking is time. One has to be sensitive to the moment when the process completes and the food is ready. This waiting for the right moment is represented by the Maid Marion combination B28. The top fraction is green – awareness of time, underneath is red – the moment to act – to take the food out of the oven. B28 too sits in Yesod right next to B56.

B28 – Time to ground

A Bun in the Oven

One of the associations of Yesod is the womb and funnily enough in English there is an expression “to have a bun in the oven” which means to be pregnant. As if the baby growing inside is a process leading to the right moment for the bun / baby to come out.

The Oven of Life

Of course the real cooking happens once we have emerged into this world and life offers us the growing experiences which we will either resist or be transformed by. This tension is expressed by the Yellow/Yellow of B42 next to the Pale Violet/Pale Violet of B56 in Yesod. Transmute in violet or hold on to identity in yellow.

Happy as I am.

Emergence

After all these thoughts though, the most surprising of all, I realized that B93 which is one of the colour combinations on a path that leads up out of this triangular oven is named Hansel. In the fairy tale Hansel is famous for having to be rescued from the oven!

I could say more but too many dishes can spoil the digestion. Alchemy also depends on just the right amount.

B93 Hansel

During the Level 1 today some new ideas came. Here are a some of them.

Dolphin and water birthing

Talking about shock and orange. The cutting of the umbilical cord is a level of shock we have nearly all experienced. In recent years new ways to give birth have appeared. Water births, where the baby emerges into water, where there is time for the orange placenta letting go process to occur before the cord is tied could be a B33 Dolphin experience. It is worth noting that the Royal blue could be the retnetion of connection with the 0 spiritual world. Also that B33 is in the same sphere of Tree of Life as Sanat Kumara which is both the coral master (healing or bypassing intense shock) and also the master that has a resonance with the universal Father Mother Principle. if we are less shocked at birth perhaps we can keep this more universal connection.

Royal Blue / Orange

This combination came to my mind today. It does not exist but it would be a fascinating combination. A shamanic resonance. Stepping into the etheric body and entering the spiritual domain. I remember i heard many years ago the question to ask of a Shaman is “When did you die?” It is the near-death crisis – whether fever or the like – that precipitates the potential Shaman into another realm. If he / she manages to return they have a gift that benefits the whole tribe. Joseph Campbell wrote a lot about this.

It is perhaps in my mind because i am in Colombia and the Shamanic tradition remains vital here. A friend of mine here has been on such journeys accompanied by a master Shaman. In addition, I am using B0 myself at present. For about three weeks now i have been occupied with this subject of the spiritual dimension. It is for this reason that i have not been writing much recently, i am in a different kind of space. Maybe one day i will find the words to share more …

El Dorado

Being back in Colombia i visited the museum of golden objects this time. There is so much gold. It was mostly shaped to be worn: as nose rings, as arm bands, as head-dresses and breast plates. El Dorado was not a myth – it was a reality!

It is speaking of Shamans that i am reminded of this now because i saw that the chest plates usually have a shape similar to our modern heart symbol. I learned however that in their culture the curves at the top of the symbolise not the heart but the wings of a bird. Ancient Colombians lived on, and cared for, the earth, but their heart was connected to the freedom of spirit which the birds’ gift of flight represents. A shaman would have the experience of flight in his orange etheric body as he entered their sacred rituals.

Golden bird at chest with heart shaped wings.

Healing Crisis

I have had a very strong cough for about two weeks now. While it seems less on my chest now it remains, and the time it becomes absolutely acute is when i get to class. And absolutely most of all in the Blue Globe meditation. Just about every sentence is a crisis expressed as the sentence “Will I finish my sentence without surrendering to a terrible cough?” I have found that the only thing that helps me is to relax deeper – to speak from the star in my tummy. This cough is an amazing teacher.I wonder if it is connected to the smashed B50 which occured during my previous visit here two months ago. I promised to write about it – perhaps i should. …

Pale blue bottle but an orange bowl i notice now! Complementary colours.

PS

I will be 50 on Tuesday and i have been told that i was born with the umbilical cord around my throat. Perhaps this is the opportunity to transcend this energetic trauma?

PPS

The image of gold from the museum came from a very nice blog post with more pictures and a great backing song. To visit and and experience it the link is http://thelatorrefamily.blogspot.com/2009/12/el-museo-del-oro.html

I started a Level course today. There was a very nice smooth energy as i talked about Vicky Wall and the birth of the first bottles. How the next morning, when the first bottles were sitting on the kitchen table, Margaret had come in, and, exclaiming how pretty they were, asked Vicky what they (the bottles) were for? Vicky’s reply – “I don’t know.”

In this moment i was inspired to invite the students to come up and take the first bottle of their selection, go back to their chair and hold this mystery in their hand. It was a very nice moment, full of the mystery and wonder of how that first morning may have been.

There is a traditional Chinese proverb: “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.” The words made me smile ruefully but they …

There is a traditional Chinese proverb: “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward.” The words made me smile ruefully but they also brought an Equilibrium bottle to my mind …

B76 Pink Gold

This combination is named Trust. Surprising since “trust” is normally a blue word. However in pink / gold we have a particular kind of trust – it is a trust in what we have learned from experience. The gold within digests the experiences of life and offers a resource that is able to meet the tests that life brings us.

B76 Pink / Gold

Binah and the Teacher

I then noticed that, in the Tree of Life, B76 appears in the sphere of Binah, ths same sphere in which B62 appears. B62 is Maha Chohan, the Greater Teacher, and it is this energy which creates the tests of life. Interesting then that both the test (from Maha Chohan) and the understanding of the lesson (in Trust) sit in the same place in the Tree.

The Pillar of Severity

Binah is at the top of the left hand pillar of the Tree. It is traditionally called the Pillar of Severity. It could also be described as the pillar of growth through responsibility. The two paths which constitute this pillar are The Chariot and The Hanged Man. It is fascinating to realise that these two paths are the ones most commonly associated with tests and initiations!

Pulse of growth

Imagine it like this. The impulse for the test comes from Maha Chohan. The challenges are in the paths that leads out from and return to Binah. The fulfillment of the lesson is also in Binah in Trust. If the energy can flow out and return fully then we are fully adept in life.

The UK telephone number is 44 - it is remarkably fitting to the UK's political system of constitutional monarchy ....

My wife visited the Houses of Parliament the other week. She is from Russia and was impressed by the history and the traditions we have in the UK, particularly the fact that on the opening of Parliament the Queen is not given entry to the House of Commons – instead she has to invite the Commoners to visit her in the House of Lords – a tradition that dates back to the 1642.

Commoners approaching the Queen and Lords

It started me thinking about numbers …

44 – the number for the UK

The UK international telephone number is +44. It is very interesting because since 4 is the number of the Emperor in the Tarot one could expect 44 to be a doubly strong Emperor. However my theory is that double numbers are actually the undoing of that number and instead offer the stepping stone to the message of the next number. So 44 is really the undoing of the Emperor – an Emperor in transformation. Indeed we see this in the colour of B44 – pale violet in the top fraction is opposite to the yellow of B4 (see my future book on numbers for more about this).

B4 The Emperor

Constitutional Monarchy

But here is the thought for today. The United Kingdom is both the most famous monarchy in the world – and yet it is also, as far as I know, the original constitutional monarchy – that means a kingdom where the power of the monarch (king / queen) has been limited by agreements with the people. The British monarchy has survived because it submitted to the rule of law. Amazing then that in B44 we have not only the violet of surrender but also the pale blue in the base: blue is the colour for the law. Surrender (violet) to the rule of law (blue) is the success of the British (44) monarchy

B44 – Surrender to the Rule of Law

1642

To return to 1642 then – as mentioned above – this is the definitive date when the monarchy lost the battle with the House of Commons. If we take this date as Equilibrium colour combinations it perfectly represents this process. B16 violet /violet and B42 yellow yellow – these two complementary colours are the quintessence of this conflict between the power of the self – yellow / the emperor, and violet / surrender and transformation.

A final coincidence

Other dates have been important too … 1215, 1649, 1688 – all have a story to tell. But I leave you instead with another 44 association – it is the number of constitutional monarchies as listed by Wikipedia that have survived into the modern world.

Your majesties …

Loneliness was in the news this week. Is it blue or pink? Read more ...

A report made the news last week declaring that loneliness was a greater danger to old people than smoking. This fits with an idea I have about pink. In the Aura-Soma training you may read blue is associated with loneliness – there is a truth in that but it is only half the story. Belonging, being loved, welcomed, having a place, being a part of something – these are reasons to stay in life, and they are all gifts of pink and the warm colours in which it is hidden such as coral.

How you deal with aloneness is in the blue. But with regard to the news headlines about loneliness as a cause of leaving the body the answer is more pink. Just as babies need pink to come into the family and onto earth, the elderly need pink to stay.

The Artist is a movie which took me out of my head and into the feeling side of being. Read my thoughts on this nourishing experience ...

Have you seen this movie? It is a film without words and without colour – it is a black and white movie in the style of the earliest Hollywood. Yet it is these very absences which open up another dimension of experience.

It took some time for me to adjust these absences – my mind was especially missing words, ideas, and a plot. Instead i found the opening scenes were so obvious, like a pantomime, obvious jokes though made in a good natured way. My mind was thinking “Will I enjoy this?” “Can I really sit through this for an hour and a half?”

Thinking gives way to feeling

Yet little by little, without realizing, I found these images and sounds began to open up my feeling side more and more. I was relaxing into a different way of relating to what I was watching: the visual cues from the actors, their larger than life expressions and actions; the ever present orchestral music providing a commentary – a language all of its own. I began to follow this story without words, began to flow with it, feeling the situations and characters, empathising without needing to refer to understanding.

In one of the final scenes high drama is punctuated by a moment of comedy. It works so well, the comedic moment elicits involuntary laughter from the audience and then it is immediately back to an intense silence as we need to see how the situation will resolve. It was amazing to experience this immersion in the moment relating in a way so different to the usual mental alert required in our modern world of information overload and decreasing attention span. Here was an experience in the opposite direction, slowing down, relaxing into flow and feeling, following without words.

Netsach not Hod

If I were to place this experience in the Tree of Life I would say it was very Netsach (feeling) and not at all Hod (thinking). It crossed my mind afterwards if the state of mind I was in during the film was closer to my early childhood perceptions before language was really formed and I watched faces and events unfold in a more open and accepting way A film worth the experience, a film for the feeling side of being.

The chance creation of a chess board led to a lesson in the positive power of yellow to inspire and uplift.

My boy came home from school the other day wanting to play chess, having met the game for the first time at school that day. Amazingly for his first ever proper game we both had a really good time The game went down all the way the wire with just our two Kings left plus one Castle for him.

I think the chessboard contributed greatly to our experience. Not having one here I had to make one and it just so happened that the easiest to make was a large yellow squared design. It was such a different feeling from the traditional black and white style which creates such an extreme polarised atmosphere. Our time playing was light, airy, and educational. I showed him how to move the pieces and what to consider as we played. I am sure this larger-than-life board with its light yellow squares gave the energy to play in this positive, intellectually stimulating, way.

Yellow has long been associated with the intellect in Aura-Soma, by chance this proved a great way to benefit from its positive influence. The crystals also brought an original, colourful, and concentrating dimension to the whole process. Here is a picture.

The local school here in Tetford was on the BBC news this evening. Today they made an internet link with a school in India and students from both schools sang a song together in real time. It was a kind of global concert.

It is interesting isn’t it that this school so deep in the English countryside far from the outside world is so international. Yet it seems fitting when I consider that in this same village is the international headquarters of the Aura-Soma Colour System. I have been coming here since 1987 and in those 25 years I have seen so many groups of brightly dressed foreigners walking around the village. The energetic field of the village must be buzzing with their presence. I am sure the school, which has now won awards for its international efforts three years in a row, is in some kind of resonance with this international vibration.

You know the headmaster once told me one of his happiest school possessions is his flagpole and set of world flags. He likes to use as many as he can – flying a country’s flag to celebrate their national holiday or other similar events.

We live in one atmosphere, we are all inspired by the same air!
