An Angel of Goodness

gargoyle on notre dame

A demon gargoyle perched on Notre Dame in Paris

One of the things that really upsets me is people pushing in to queues. It happened again outside Notre Dame in Paris this weekend. A smoking couple appeared next to me just in the final minute of a 15 minute queue. I spoke to them but they didn’t care. So what to do? I felt like hitting him … (I am not always “spiritual”)

Inside I saw them again – I was surprised because his voice was quite soft as he pointed out something about the architecture to his friend. And then again, a little further down the church, as I was standing watching the priest performing Mass the man appeared next to me once more. I felt like making some curse on him – very “un- spiritual” I know, but I was still caught up with anger. However the words that formed in my mind were surprisingly different.

“May an angel of goodness enter your heart. May your future be different from your past.”

I liked it. The feeling of anger was gone. I don’t know if the blessing was for him, but it certainly did me a lot of good.
