Learning through playfulness
My son Daniel loves the water. Even when he was only four years old he would run and jump straight into the deep end of the pool. I remember once watching him splashing / spinning around in the water. As a father and teacher part of me found this a little irritating – i wanted to intervene – to say “Look Daniel. This is how you should swim – try this.” But i realised that the spinning he was doing was his own valuable ‘learning to swim’ process. There was no hurry he would learn the regular strokes in his own time and this spinning was a valuable skill too.
Love and Free
There is a Japanese book called Love and Free written by Ayumu Takahashi. When he got married he and his wife left their jobs and Japan to travel till their money ran out. This trip changed their life. He created a book from his experience which acquired a cult following and allowed him to become a writer and traveller.I found this book when i made a conscious decision to open to the new by doing something different I chose to go into an art cafe for a coffee rather than Starbucks.
In this book one sentence that stood for me was “What shall we play today?” It is one of his favourite sentences. Play stimulates his life energy. From being willing to play he has created not just a lifestyle but a living. He now makes his living from his travels, writings and, i hear, a guest house in Okinawa.
His sequel Book “I Love You Always and Forever” has on the first page a great picture of children running in the edge of the ocean. Such a turquoise picture. The ocean of consciousness, play, and children who are in the full flow of the individuation process.
Play is the turquoise way to learn. Turquoise is the greater teacher. Play is a great way to learn. Be free, enjoy.
In the last few days since picking up that book possibilities to travel and play with Aura-Soma in Hawaii and Mount Shasta have appeared. Amazing life!
