The unfolding disaster at Fukushima has brought attention to nuclear power again. Last year I watched a history of modern physics. Some of the dates and numbers mentioned triggered my “exploring the world with Aura-Soma” process. The recent tragic and unfolding events in Japan bring them back to mind. I offer these ideas with a sensitivity to those who continue to be affected.
1919 : Transmutation
It was in 1919 that true alchemy – transmutation of one element into another – was first observed scientifically. In this year in a Cambridge laboratory Ernest Rutherford caused Nitrogen to become Hydrogen and Oxygen. This was change at the nuclear level within the atom. This is true alchemy. Nuclear processes – whether fission or fusion – transmute elements from one to another.
The date of this first scientifically-observed alchemy was 1919. B19 in Equilibrium is Red/Purple. Up until now there has been little difference in interpretation between red and purple in Aura-Soma; the main point being the simple observation that purple contains a little more red than violet. So at a first glance we could say B19 is as a Red/Violet. Red corresponds to physical matter – the material world; violet represents transformation. On this basis a simple interpretation would be: B19 indicates transformation (violet) within (underneath) physical substance (red). This is actually a good description of the alchemy of nuclear change.
But of course B19 is purple not violet, and we are talking about transmutation not transformation. Writing this post however has inspired me to some fascinating threads of a new and deeper understanding of purple which I will explore in a future article possibly in my first Newsletter planned for next month.
1927 : Quantum World
The 1927 Solvay conference was perhaps the most important meeting in the history of quantum theory. The greatest physicists of the age gathered to hammer out a model by which to understand the newly discovered quantum world, the quantum world being the layer of reality foaming underneath and creating this material (atomic) world.
B27 is the Equilibrium bottle which corresponds to the Ten of Wands. Wands indicate the element of Fire (= energy or Spirit) while the Ten denotes the tenth sphere Malkuth which represents this physical / material universe. This combination Fire and Earth is a very good description for the meeting of nuclear and atomic physics. My understanding is that the nuclear processes of fission and fusion occur on the very bridge between these two layers (atomic and quantum) of reality.
Amazingly when I added the Renewal Process course I was teaching the weekend when the nuclear crisis began to unfold in Fukushima the ASIACT database gave my course the ID number 2727!
92 : Uranium
Uranium is the element most commonly used in nuclear fission. Its atomic number is 92 – indicating it has 92 protons within its nucleus. As such it is inherently unstable, the repulsive energy between these 92 protons is too great and over time the nucleus will naturally emit some protons. This is nuclear fission. Uranium is the element that naturally transmutes itself!
The Equilibrium bottle B92 is placed on the path of Temperance and this is traditionally the path of Alchemy. In the sphere of Yesod at the lower end of Temperance is St Germain the master Alchemist. The other Equilibrium bottle on the path of temperance is B14 the Clear / Gold combination. It is another alchemy bottle with its gold base fraction being the traditional goal of alchemy. It is fascinating to see then that Uranium’s atomic number should place it on the path of transmutation and alchemy!
An evolving process
Finally Uranium is named after Uranus which is also the name of a planet– the planet of revolution and upset. On the 12th March 2011 – the day the nuclear disaster at Fukushima began to unfold – Uranus left Pisces and entered the fire sign of Aries. It is a rare event – it happens only once every 84 years.. Its impulse is to initiate an awakening of Fire for the world. Though Fukushima has moved off the front page of the news it remains an ongoing concern for many. And who can what deep change will result from it – not just physical but more importantly spiritually and psychologically. Let us wish for the best.
