Numerology is the study of the significance of number. It is an interpretative discipline assigning subjective meaning to numbers unlike, for example, mathematics which uses numbers in a purely objective way. Numerology is often used to explore someone’s character or life situation. Your numbers may be found through the date of your birth, your name (through letter/number correspondences) or through other items of personal significance such as your phone number or the number of your house.

exploring number...

Numbers have been a subject of special interest for me for many years. I enjoy to play with them, exploring their qualities and learning about their significances. I use a variety of techniques including their place in the sequence of number, situations in which they appear including rhythms in music, even the appearance and sound of the number are all worth consideration.

For example 1 stands upright and is therefore willing to be seen, rather like the role of the leader with which it is traditionally associated. The 2 with its curved appearance however looks like it is bowing – perhaps to the 1 that preceded it. Indeed this is the traditional role of the 2, the second-in-command who has to bow to his leader. It is interesting that in jazz music, the emphasis is on the second beat; this leaves the number one beat as an empty space inviting other instruments to step in to the lead role and begin to improvise.

number and colour...

The most important tool I use to explore number though is colour. I do this through the Aura-Soma Equilibrium sequence. This sequence is an inspired revelation of colour combinations, each combination is associated with certain themes and each combination also bears a number. By comparing the message of the colours with the themes of the number I find fascinating insights are yielded into both subjects.

To return to the theme of the 1, the Equilibrium combination, B1, is Blue / Deep Magenta. Deep Magenta represents the energy of the source, (the quantum field – one could say), and this colour being in the bottom fraction is the perfect base from which to manifest all things. The blue in the top represents amongst other things the throat chakra, and thus the power of the word. The word is very much associated with the leader who declares what will be done, and in a larger sense with the (principle of) the Creator. “In the beginning was the Word …” the Bible declares. It is also the power of the Magician who says (spells out) what he (or she!) wants to happen - the Magician’s symbol is of course the wand – and here is the shape of the 1 again!
